Social Media Marketing Strategy: The Step You’re Missing

With social media marketing for creative entrepreneurs and aspiring authors on an all-time rise, there’s immense pressure to generate a strategy that condenses a tactful plan for manipulating the logistics of algorithm hacks to award you the followers and visibility you need to get seen on social sites. 

It’s friggin’ daunting. 

And honestly, it’s unrealistic. The struggle for viewership is causing so many people to question their authenticity and creative passions while trying to promote their work and artistry without feeling dead-ended on social sights. 

What does one have to do to get some love and attention around here? 

As an authentic, creative being, you don’t want to compare yourself to those who generate more views on their content—but how can you not? You want to grow too. You want to be in on the community of those whose platforms drive traffic and establish a network of genuine people to their pages. I get it. 

It’s okay. You’re allowed to want that. 

But you don’t have to compare yourself to others to do it, and you certainly don’t have to follow their approach to kick-start your success. 

What if I told you there was another way? What if I said the missing step in your social media strategy is… you? 

Are you rolling your eyes yet? Don’t click away, friend. There’s a method to my madness. 

By definition, a strategy is: “a plan of action or policy designed to achieve a major or overall aim.” 

What they don’t say is that you create that plan of action or design the policies to best suit you. You are your greatest strategist. 

Shift your perspective about what it means to make it all happen. It doesn’t have to feel like a cookie-cutter design you need to follow because everyone else is doing it, and it seems like it’s working. Yes, you need a plan, but what works for them may not work for you. You know this already. 

Stop assuming you are not the ticket to optimizing your strategy. Stop thinking there’s one way to implement a plan of action to achieve your major goals. Stop believing there’s a specific timeline to finding the success you desire on social media. 

All we need is you. And there’s nothing I’ll ever mean more than that. Who you are at your core is going to lead the way for your success. Creating and sharing content that feels authentic to who you are by soul’s design is the master strategy for growing your social media platforms. 

Don’t let anyone tell you who you have to be to accomplish your creative desires. Commit to believing that being true to what feels good to you is enough to get you there. 

These are the Top Five Reasons Why YOU are the Missing Step to your Social Media Strategy: 

1. We connect to what we can relate to.

Your story matters. I could say that to everyone I encounter and still feel unsure they’ve gotten the message. Stories help us understand and deal with the human experience. 

People don’t want to feel sold to—whether it’s a physical product or a façade you’re pressured into pursuing. We can smell that sh*t from a mile away. We know when someone’s trying to reel us in–no pun intended. And even if we didn’t catch you in the act, who wants to build their creative identity on a falsified persona that was founded on notions sought from outside sources?

Readers, consumers, audiences; they just want to know there’s someone out there who understands their problems and wants to help solve them or knows what they like and wants the same things. We instinctually seek human interaction. We want to see ourselves in others. 

If you want them to see you, you must be you. They’ll know if you’re acting as someone else.

2. We appeal to emotion.

If you want to impact someone, you’ve got to get them right in the feels. This is not an ingenuine practice. It should be a relief to those sick of feeling like they must uphold a life of grandeur on social media to be seen as an influencer. Sh*t gets messy sometimes, chaos always ensues at inopportune moments, and life isn’t always Valencia filters and Instareel trends. 

That’s your superpower. 

Get onto that social platform and show your audience what a bad day looks like. Talk to your desired clients about the ups and downs of pursuing your creative desires without feeling inferior. There is an authority in taking accountability for the rough stuff, and there’s an endless community of people who have the same bad days as you. 

3. We need to see you using your authentic voice.

The more you remain authentic in your voice, the more you inspire others to do the same. Most of us are out here just trying to figure out how to be in the game, let alone be an all-star player. If they see you marching to the beat of your drum with confidence, they will too, and it’ll become a ripple effect of people who all do the same. 

Let’s normalize selfies without filters and conversations about how lonely it can be when you’re trying to pursue a dream and supporting content that may not appeal to the masses but will appeal to those it needs to. 

Our voice on social media can incite change. Ask yourself who you want to be in that change. As your mama would say, “Are you a leader or a follower?” The choice is yours.

4. The more you do what feels good; the more good will come to you.

The laws of attraction are not new to you, but I’m going to reiterate something important. The more you lean into the things that make you feel alive, the more enlivened your life will become. I’m living proof of it. It wasn’t until I decided that I would only do what felt good to me that I started to grow in life and business.

People don’t buy Tainted Lionheart, or I Got to Know Nature because I follow a template formula for marketing. They buy the books because I’m committed to being honest about why I wrote those books, the process it took to write them, and how they impacted my life. 

People don’t follow my social media pages because I live some fancy life filled with latte art and day trips out to sea. They follow me because I’m not afraid to post myself in sweatpants and an oversized t-shirt while cooking pancakes for dinner and juggling a toddler in my arm while using an F-bomb at least once a caption. Because that’s real life. 

5. Your tribe is waiting.

More often than not, we spend time sizing ourselves up to others like us on social media instead of creating a community with them. Others like you are not your competition. There is strength and power in numbers. Band together instead of dividing yourself from the very people seeking the same desires as you. It’s a surefire way to grow with a tribe to learn from. 

And, uh, you think you’re the only one who has weird or unique hobbies and passions? You’re not. The tribe of people who are just like you are waiting for you to find them, and the only way they’ll find you is if you’re making content that aligns with those hobbies and passions. 

So, stop overthinking this! The strategy is not to do what you think you have to do to build your social platforms. The strategy is to do what feels authenticated to who you are within your means. 

Create a plan that works for you. Be consistent in what you do, but know the choice is yours for how you go about utilizing your platforms for authentic growth. Use the resources available to you but take what feels good and leave what doesn’t. Following a path that doesn’t resonate with you will not help you see a change in your social media marketing. 

Doing anything that doesn’t feel good isn’t going to help you see the changes you want. For real.
